Cycling in Suffolk - The Aviva Women’s Tour and much, much more!
Today at 12:45pm the Aviva Women’s Tour came through the heart of Ipswich Waterfront. With a line-up of 94 international cyclists, the fast paced spectacle kicked off with the first stage in Suffolk which started in the market town of Bury St. Edmunds at 11am.
The cyclists came through Ipswich Town Centre, Kesgrave Main Road, through Woodbridge and Saxmundham and into the Suffolk costal line, finally finishing in the scenic sea-side town of Aldeburgh with the leaders expected to be crossing the line at 1:50pm.
Launched last year, this race saw top riders compete such as Olympic Champion Dani King, Double Olympic champion Laura Trott, Paralympic Champion Dame Sarah Storey and the current World Time Champion Lisa Brennauer!
A great opening stage was set! Cyclists headed straight out into the rolling countryside of Suffolk on a zig-zag route that is flat and open. Head winds and a sprint finish for the line were almost inevitable!
With Suffolk being one of the most active counties in England it’s no surprise that the following months will be filled with cycling activities and events that gets in to gear with The Aviva Women’s Tour starting it all off!
