My head is still spinning from a fantastic evening at St Peter’s by the Waterfront. It was quite literally packed to the rafters, and great atmosphere among the audience too.

Right from the start Chris Ingham established himself as the showman for the evening, and took a great deal of trouble to ensure that the audience understood the reasons behind the selection of music for the evening, making it clear that this wasn’t going to be a standard evening of Shirley Bassy big belters (his words, not mine), but was going to give the audience an eclectic mix of music that went back as far as the 1940s.

It is true to say that not all the tunes could be described as jazz, but each song had the Chris Ingham jazz magic infused within it. The quartet, made up of Chris Ingham on piano, George Double on drums, the Rev Andrew Brown on bass, and Alan Barnes on saxophone and clarinet, was joined by the beautiful and charming Joanna Eden. He soft, smooth sound made a delightful front to the sounds from the band.

The audience were treated to a wide mix of musical movie moments, including The Aristocats, From Russia With Love, Agatha, Let’s Make Love, The Pink Panther and The Ipcress File.

Chris Ingham initial rapport with the audience engendered a strong relationship throughout the evening, and it is fair to say that people left feeling very entertained.
