Maritime Ipswich Festival takes place weekend of 15th and 16th August
Maritime Ipswich is with us once again. Some activities will start on the later part of Friday 14th with a full programme of events on the Saturday and Sunday. Key activities include the Re-enactments, Historic Vessels, Funfair, Street & Food Markets, and the ‘Pilots Mess Pub’ together with a music stage on board a barge.
The aim of the event in 2015 is to promote the rich historical and cultural heritage that Ipswich offers whilst featuring some new and exciting contemporary activities. The ‘War Time Years’ in Ipswich will be remembered through a variety of re-enactments and working stands with a static exhibition in the Old Customs House. This will be complemented with visiting vessels and a varied programme of activities. Sandbag entry points will be manned by volunteers in WW uniforms The 2015 festival will be an attraction for both the local community and visitors to the town. The waterside activity runs on Saturday and Sunday between 10am-10pm.
The festival is located throughout the Ipswich Waterfront and includes the Island site, along the northern and eastern quays (with event control based in Aquarium located on the top floor of the Eastern Enterprise Hub in the James Hehir Building). A temporary tourist information point will be opened on the ground floor and outside of the Ashton Waterfront Building. Road closures will come into force from 6am on Friday until midnight on Sunday.
