Join in with The Big Chinwag

We all know what it’s like to feel lonely but imagine being completely alone every single day. In Suffolk more than 15,000 older people say they go a month without having a meaningful conversation.

Therefore throughout June, Age UK Suffolk is asking people to join them in The Big Chinwag to get the county talking to one another and to help combat loneliness. All you need to do is arrange a get-together with your friends, family or colleagues; have a good old natter whilst having lots of fun and raising money to help Age UK Suffolk.

The Chinwag event could be anything from a traditional afternoon tea party, a picnic in the park or a wine tasting evening, with the national Big Chinwag Day taking place on Friday 19th June.

If you would like to take part in our very own Big Chinwag on Thursday June 18th, at Wherstead Park, Ipswich, supported by the East of England Co-operative Society, we’d love to see you. The event is from 10am – 12noon and to register free, simply click on the Eventbrite linkhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-big-chinwag-tickets-17044413299 or email [email protected]. We will be enjoying entertainment from the Co-op Ladies Choir, coffee, tea and pastries, a raffle and of course, lots of chinwagging! We’d also love to hear from you if you would like to donate a raffle prize for this event – all proceeds will go directly to supporting older people in our communities.

George Chilvers, Community Fundraising Officer said: “The Big Chinwag really is the perfect opportunity to bring people together across the county and to raise some much needed money to help us support older people in Suffolk. Your help can really make a difference in combatting loneliness as just £52 could pay for a telephone befriender to provide companionship to a lonely older person for a year”.

If you’d like to register your interest in the Big Chinwag or if you’d like some great ideas on how to make your event as successful as possible please visit www.ageuksuffolk.org to download your Big Chinwag pack or phone George Chilvers on 01473 353069 for more information.
