At Gallery 3, Ipswich Town Hall, Cornhill, Ipswich, IP1 1DH
A workshop led by Ipswich jazz drummer and bandleader Bob Airzee.
The workshop does not intend to turn everyone into a jazz drummer but it will give an insight into how to play this style and how it crosses over into other genres. It is aimed at drummers who have little or no experience of swing or jazz and would like to expand their knowledge.
The areas covered will be the swing ride pattern, feathering the bass drum, basic independence and exercises to increase control and co-ordination. Some source material will be available as well as a required listening list of influential drummers. There will be two drum kits and practice pads, you only need to bring your sticks.
Bob Airzee has, over the years gained wide experience in many drumming styles from rock to orchestral percussion but his overriding passion is swing and jazz drumming. He is the drummer and musical director for Swing Machine Big Band and the percussionist and musical director for Horn Factory Big Band. In addition he is also a member of several small jazz groups in Ipswich, runs the Ipswich Jazz Collective and is a full time drum teacher.
