DanceEast announces biggest summer season yet

With something for everyone to enjoy DanceEast’s summer season is jam-packed with performances, workshops, classes and activities.

There’s fresh new work as part of the New Wolsey Theatre’s Pulse Festival, including a dynamic double bill on 2 June from Rhiannon Faith and The Hiccup Project, plus an exclusive work in progress presentation on 4 June of Gecko’s new piece The Wedding, which they will be touring next year.

On Friday 10 June Company Chameleon perform at the Jerwood DanceHouse for the first time with Beauty of the Beast, described as an unforgettable, funny and moving with Rage Against the Machine, athleticism, beauty and Bach.

Stephanie Schober presents Tracing Gestures on Friday 24 June, a performance that combines drawing, video projection, theatre and dance.

The second annual Move | Be Moved Festival Friday 1 – Wednesday 6 July provides plenty of opportunities for local community groups to get involved with performances and events, including HOST, a day packed with workshops, presentations and performances related to older people dancing.

For young people there’s lots happening, including on Saturday 9 July The Adventures of The Little Ghost, a family friendly immersive performance which also offers the chance to get involved and perform as part of its local community cast; and Summer Schools for 7-11 years and 12-18 years in August, great ways to keep dancing through the long summer holidays, have fun, learn new skills and make new friends.

The National Youth Dance Company returns on Tuesday 19 July, after an amazing sell-out show last year, and will be one of the hottest tickets in town. If you have not seen them before or want to again, book quickly!

Classical dance fans are in for some real treats with two exciting productions taking place outside of the DanceHouse:

DanceEast and Wild Space present a promenade immersive performance on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 July by the National Ballet of Canada Choreographic Associate Robert Binet, in the beautiful location of Abbey Hall just outside Eye, with live music and a superb cast of young dancers from around the world.

Suffolk Community Foundation and The Royal Ballet’s Gary Avis (and DanceEast Trustee) bring Royal Ballet friends, for only the second time in half a century, and Anton du Beke to perform at Ipswich Regent on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September.

DanceEast’s Centre for Advanced Training students present their end of year show on Saturday 30 July with a mixed bill of original works commissioned by some of the most influential national and international choreographers.

Artistic Director, Brendan Keaney, says: “We are also excited to announce that our Christmas show this year will be Pinocchio by Jasmin Vardimon Company, performing from Wednesday 14 – Sunday 18 December. Jasmin’sPark was a huge hit with Ipswich audiences a few years ago and we are delighted to welcome her back to the DanceHouse. Tickets go on general sale on 6 May and I would urge you to book early to avoid disappointment.
