A roundup of what’s on at the New Wolsey Theatre this March
This Spring at the New Wolsey Theatre, the productions keep rolling in – and this March is no exception! The Last Five Years runs until Friday 11 March in the main auditorium, but here’s what you could be enjoying this March in a variety of spaces, including their Easter offering:
- This season’s Pulse Presents line up has four new productions, perfect for those who love seeing a snapshot of contemporary theatre. Greg Wohead returns with a work-in-progress Comeback Special on Thu 3 March – a solo re-enactment of Elvis Presley’s 1968 comeback. Nigel and Louise explore the influence of men in world history and domestic life in This Is What Men Do on Sun 6 March. Toby Peach shares his eulogy with us as he enters the (not so) exclusive Cancer club in The Eulogy of Toby Peach on Thu 10 March. Taptap Theatre quest for the secrets of time-travel in rip roaring comedy Captain Morgan and the Sands of Time on Thu 17 March.
- Saturday mornings are still at the New Wolsey Theatre and Studio have the perfect shows to bring the whole family to. Inspired by Buster Keaton, Flatpack follows two newlyweds putting together their new home on Sat 5 March. Two thousand year old tales are told in The Mighty Prince and Other Fabulous Fables on Sat 12 March. A brand new production of Orion and the Dark based on the book by Emma Yarlett play on Sat 19 March.
- From the producers of Flare Path, Birdsong Productions return with Shadowlands, by William Nicholson, telling the love story of C.S. Lewis, Oxford don and author of The Chronicles of Narnia and The Screwtape Letters, and American poet Joy Davidman. What begins as a formal meeting of two very different minds slowly develops into a feeling of connection and love. The cast will be led by Stephen Boxer (Humans, The Iron Lady, Doctors) as C.S. Lewis, Denis Lill (The Royal, Only Fools and Horses, Rumpole of the Bailey) as Major W.H. Lewis ‘Warnie’ and Amanda Ryan (The Forsyte Saga, Shameless) as Joy Davidman. The production visits Ipswich from Mon 14 to Sat 19 March
- Don’t miss favourites from around the UK for a limited run of performances! Performing tracks from his latest album, Richard Durrant – The Guitar Whisperer plays on Tue 22 March. The Olivier Award nominatedShowstoppers – The Improvised Musical visit Ipswich for two nights on Wed 23 and Thu 24 March after their run in the West End. Tourtetteshero Jess Thom who featured on BBC 4’s Live from Television Centre brings her show Backstage In Biscuit Land – where no show is ever exactly the same! See her perform on Sat 26 March.
- Families this Easter can come and enjoy comedy, dance and a classic nursery tale! The Wrong Crowd and Soho Theatre bring their adventure as wild as the wind – Kite, on Tue 29 and Wed 30 March. Comedy Club 4 Kids has cracking entertainment from ages 6 to 12 on Thu 31 March. For younger audiences, Stuff & Nonsense return with a thrilling adaptation of everyone’s bear-y tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears on Fri 1 and Sat 2 April.
