Ipswich is a town of arts and culture, one which embraces performing arts, dance, theatre and visual arts so it was an exciting weekend when the announcement came that a new alliance has been formed to promote Ipswich as a cultural centre of excellence.
The alliance is made up of DanceEast, the New Wolsey Theatre, Gecko physical theatre company and the Robert Pacitti companies.
Raising the profile of Ipswich is key to the aims of alliance, and to showcase the town for its cultural offering, and as the county town of Suffolk, Ipswich is well placed to lead on this. It’s close proximity to other key cultural assets such Snape Maltings, The Apex and Smith Row, makes Ipswich the ideal destination for anyone looking for a cultural experience.
The announcement was made in the East Anglian Daily Time 21st December 2013. It was exciting to read extracts from those involved on how the collaboration seeks to draw upon local talent and to bring together skills and experiences across the venues, so that Ipswich is placed firmly on the cultural map. Sarah Holmes, Chief Executive of the New Wolsey Theatre said that, ‘We Are Ipswich is a chance to show the world what Ipswich has - and what it could have - in terms of art and culture.’
Examples of collaborative working will be showcased during the Spring season of events, which will be also listed on the Ipswich Town & Waterfront website.
