Dates for the next Ipswich Maritime Festival confirmed as 15th to 17th August 2014.
If you’re a fan of Ipswich Waterfront, then you’ll sure to know about the annual Ipswich Maritime Festival – and for those of you who haven’t heard about this annual event, read on.
The date for the next year’s festival have been confirmed as 15th to 17th August 2014, earlier than last year’s event which took place during the Bank Holiday weekend.
Last year’s event was hugely successful, with a week of activities as part of the Celebrate Ipswich week, cumulating in the Maritime Festival weekend. There was nautical themed Fancy Dress Friday, where shop owners and residents of Ipswich dressed as Pirates, helping to promote our maritime town; local craft markets; face painting; street music; a visit by the tall ships, as well as a number of other historic vessels.
Tours of the River Orwell were enjoyed by many (along with cream teas that were served onboard the Orwell Lady); and the Baroque on a Boat brought added culture in the form of a sublime performance of 18th and 19th century music on board Sailing Barge Victor.
Attendees also enjoyed a selection of foods at the waterfront continental food market, where many enjoyed fine chocolates, cheeses, cakes, as well as traditional lunch and snack foods, such as burritos, curries and paella. And the weekend was not just for food lovers, as we saw the Beer Festival take residence down on the waterfront, where a wide selection of local, national and international beers could be sampled – all whilst taking in the sights and sounds of the waterfront.
Local restaurants, bars and retailers offered continued great service, with many extending their opening hours, putting on additional events and offers, and demonstrated to all who visited just why Ipswich is such a great place to visit, and ensuring return visitors in the following months.
During the maritime weekend the quayside was brimming with activities, including market stalls of local produce and crafts, displays, and exciting historical re-enactments. The finale of the maritime celebrations was a stunning fireworks display, set on the water, giving everyone on the quayside a great view, lighting up the many boats, yachts and other vessels moored in the marina.
And so we are sure to once again expect a great collection of events and activities which celebrate our maritime history. Market Square is already confirmed as the organiser for the continental market, and as the programme of events is f over the firmed up over months we will update the website with activities and events for you to schedule into your diary.
