This month six extraordinary dancers from Hofesh Shechter Company become choreographers in the third incarnation of In Good Company. Brimming with their eccentric spirit and uncontainable talent they have created five new dance pieces and one sensational film especially for this project to be performed for one night only at the Jerwood DanceHouse Ipswich on Friday 16 May as part of its One Night Stand programme.
The dancers hailing from the UK, France, Holland, Egypt and Germany are currently touring in Shechter’s work worldwide, and have been given complete artistic freedom to find their own unique choreographic voices.
Each piece, between ten and fifteen minutes long, showcases the dancers’ new ideas and new inspirations tailored to their own outstanding performing talent.
The bi-annual project is a major part of Hofesh Shechter Company’s commitment to its exceptional artists. It gives the dancers an opportunity to develop high level, ambitious ideas, supporting them to commission live music, spoken text and film from their own creative collaborators.
Recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting contemporary artists, Shechter is renowned for creating raw, highly charged, physical contemporary dance and we are excited to witness how his unique style has influenced the dancers’ distinctive choreography.
The In Good Company programme is: Bruno Guillore’s Pandemonium, a duet performed by Hannah Shepherd and Philip Hulford; Frédéric Despierre’s What if dog was one of us?, a solo for Diogo Sousa with text written by former company dancer, Chris Evans; Kim Kohlmann’s Skinship, a duet for herself and Aimée Lagrange; Doppel! a film by Maëve Berthelot, created on location in Mexico with designer Leila Zin; Sam Coren’s Gully, a group work, designed by Kasper Hansen and Dissimilar Foxes a work by SitaOstheimer.
As with all One Night Stand presentations at the DanceHouse, Artistic Director & Chief Executive Brendan Keaney and members of his DanceEast team will be on hand post show to hear audience members’ feedback on the performance they have just seen. Ticket holders can also enjoy a half price drink in the DanceEast bar with a chance to chat to performers and creatives involved in the evening’s performance.
