PRESS RELEASE-PRESS RELEASE-PRESS RELEASE

Cyclists across the region are being given the opportunity to take part in a new sportive in Suffolk as the UCS Ipswich & Coastal Giro d’Espresso is announced for Ipswich on Saturday 7th September. The sportive, which is open to the public, will cover the route of the UCS Ipswich and Suffolk Coastal Grand Prix taking place the following day.

The route itself starts at the Neptune Marina in Ipswich, the very same start of last year’s Tour of Britain, then rolls out across the Suffolk countryside to the beautiful coastal towns of Thorpeness and Aldeburgh, then returns to the pubs and cafe’s of the Ipswich waterfront.

Cllr Bryony Rudkin, Ipswich Borough Council’s cultural portfolio-holder, said: “We are hoping that this weekend will become a regular fixture on the British cycling calendar. It is a unique chance to spend a weekend in Suffolk, ride the sportive, watch the pros’ race and then ride on traffic-free streets for the Ipswich Sky Ride.”

Every participant will get a free shot of espresso (or coffee of their choice) at the start, and a pint of Adnams and Suffolk pie at the finish.

Meanwhile, thousands of people are expected to cheer on the pro riders in the grand prix on 8th September. Professor Brendon Noble, Head of School, Science, Technology and Health at UCS, said: “We are very pleased to be involved with another exciting event for British Cycling and look forward to welcoming elite riders and the SkyRide back to the UCS Ipswich campus in the heart of the Waterfront. There is no doubt that events of this calibre are fantastic for Ipswich and Suffolk, and particularly for our students, many of whom are just beginning to explore and analyse the high impact that science has on sporting success.”
