Instant choir – just add people!

Far less scary than Gareth Malone — no auditions, no sheet music, no keyboards, no film crew, no solo singing, no yellow trousers — choirmaster Chris Rowbury will be building a brand new choir from scratch over six Tuesday evenings in January to perform for one night only in Ipswich on Saturday 5th March. Everyone is welcome whether you’ve only ever sung in the bath or are a regular choir member.

Called the Singing Safari, this six-week project will take singers on an imaginary journey around the world collecting exotic songs from a range of cultures and traditions such as Africa, America, Eastern Europe, the South Seas and beyond. Chris teaches all the songs by ear and in glorious harmony without an instrument or backing track in sight.

The Singing Safari will set off from Ipswich IP4 1JW on Tuesday 19th January at 7.30pm. This will lead to a full concert on Saturday 5th March at St. Peter’s by the Waterfront, Ipswich. There will be a small charge of £30 for the whole series of workshops, final rehearsal and performance. Come and try out the first rehearsal free before paying for the six sessions.

The Singing Safari is open to anyone from 16 to 80. There are no auditions and you won’t be asked to sing solo. No experience is required as all songs will be taught by ear in the traditional way. Each March since 2012 around 50 singers have delighted packed houses at St. Peter’s. Let’s get Ipswich singing – the more the merrier!

Chris Rowbury has 30 years’ experience as a patient, charismatic teacher with a relaxed style laced with plenty of humour. He will get you singing in wonderful harmony in a matter of minutes!
