Specialist agreement signed between University Campus Suffolk and Suffolk New College
A Progression Agreement has been signed between University Campus Suffolk (UCS) and Suffolk New College which will benefit students on business courses.
UCS has been developing agreements with a small number of schools and colleges in order to support and encourage Suffolk students to progress to higher education.
This agreement means students who achieve a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism, Business or Information Technology at Suffolk New College will be able to benefit from a guaranteed Higher Education (HE) place at UCS if entry requirements are met. This will enable students to progress to one of the undergraduate degree programmes within the Suffolk Business School, namely BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management, BA (Hons) Business Management, BSc (Hons) Business Management and Information Technology, BA (Hons) Event Management, BA (Hons) Event and Tourism Management, BA (Hons) Tourism Management.
Teams from Business and Travel and Tourism at Suffolk New College met with academics from the Suffolk Business School at UCS to discuss a range of activities to raise students’ awareness of the benefits of Higher Education and how to access this. Activities will include: visiting UCS for taster events and guest lectures; working together to review assessment methods to help prepare students for academic level and developing curriculum to meet employer needs. Travel and Tourism is particularly important to the economy of Suffolk and it is important young people are aware of the exciting opportunities that working in this sector can offer. Students at Suffolk New College benefit from a range of work experience opportunities and further opportunities to develop work experience projects with UCS are being explored to further enrich the student experience.

There has always been a close and very positive working relationship with UCS and this progression agreement is further evidence of the benefits collaborative working has on the future education of young people.”

Students at Suffolk New College benefit greatly from real work experience opportunities with a range of large employers associated with both Business and Travel and Tourism. This enables them to apply the knowledge gained and enhance their employability skills, something universities value alongside academic ability.”
Professor Simon Hallsworth, Executive Dean for the Faculty of Art, Business and Applied Social Science at UCS says “By offering students a guaranteed place at UCS, progression agreements not only cement the positive links we at UCS have with our local schools and colleges, they make the journey into higher education far more comprehensible and easier to navigate for students.
