The New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership called on the Prime Minister to turn infrastructure promises into action, during his visit to Suffolk and Norfolk today (Friday).

New Anglia LEP board member Mark Pendlington met with David Cameron in Lowestoft with local MP Peter Aldous, business and local authority leaders to discuss the Government’s plans to improve the region’s roads and rail networks.

Mr Pendlington, who is the LEP’s lead on infrastructure and co-chair of the Government’s Norwich in 90 Taskforce, said: “We are delighted Mr Cameron visited Norfolk and Suffolk today, showing that he recognises the huge growth potential of our area and its role in leading the country out of recession and creating thousands of new jobs.

“It was a very positive meeting. Mr Cameron recognised that our part of the country has not had its fair share of infrastructure investment in the past. I was able to stress to him that growth, competitiveness and jobs depend on schemes like the dualling of the A11, and funding for the Postwick Hub and improvement schemes in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth.

“Further improvements to the A47 are vital too, including connecting it through to Lowestoft. We are delighted with the A14 improvements in Cambridgeshire, and the promise of no toll tax, but we now need to look at measures in Suffolk.

“Fast reliable access by rail is also vitally important, and the Government’s new Norwich in 90 Taskforce promises practical solutions and tangible results.

“I was impressed by the Prime Minister’s personal commitment to move forward these vital schemes, and I reiterated our commitment to work with Government to deliver on these commitments and to establish Norfolk and Suffolk as a real powerhouse of enterprise and growth in the UK.”
