A new series of guided walks led by the Ipswich Tourist Guides will help bring the history of the town to life.
The Afternoon Tea Walks will run from January to April. Each will explore a particular theme of the town’s heritage and, to make it extra special, will conclude in a tea room where walkers can enjoy refreshments and an opportunity to chat with their guide.
The first walk is on Friday 17th January, commencing at the Borough Council’s Tourist Information Centre at 2pm. The theme is “Backwaters & Hidden Corners of Ipswich” and will explore the network of small paths between the New Wolsey Theatre and the Waterfront.
Other walks in the coming weeks include:
“Power of the Pen” - looking at famous writers who have been connected with the town;
“How We Shopped in Times Gone By” - including tales of the town’s medieval markets, a dishonest Tudor Butcher and the mortal dangers of the Victorian pharmacy;
“Happy Birthday, Mr Dickens” - see the town the great writer knew and used in many of his works;
“What About the Women”? - an exploration of the lives and times of remarkable Ipswich women, from England’s first female aviator to writers and wartime bus drivers).

Tickets cost just £7 per person per walk, which includes refreshments, and must be booked in advance.
