Did you know that the UK is celebrating its first Small Business Saturday on 7 December 2013?

Spearheaded by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, Small Business Saturday is a chance for small businesses to promote themselves and generate trade. In the US, where it’s an established commercial holiday, it generated $5.5 billion in sales in 2012. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-supports-first-ever-small business-Saturday.

The UK Government says: There are 4.8 million small businesses in the UK and over 14 million people work in them. If Small Business Saturday raises the profile of small businesses, it will have done its job. On the same day the UK is thinking about small businesses, Cash Mobs come to Suffolk. Cash Mobs enable the community to support a local business in tough economic times. A cash mob is a new social-networking-and shopping movement aimed at increasing sales at selected small businesses. We are delighted that our first Suffolk Cash Mob will coincide with Small Business Saturday and will be in the town of IPSWICH.

How can you help and be involved? Please:

  • LIKE US on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/CashMobSuffolk - where the instructions are!
  • ASK YOUR Facebook friends to like the page as well and to cascade it out to their networks
  • LOOK OUT for #cashmobSFK on Twitter and retweet when you can
  • CASCADE this flyer out to as many people in your networks as possible!
  • PUT YOUR TENNER ASIDE – you will spend it in the nominated shop on Saturday 7 December!

Cash mobs are all about keeping the community spirit alive in the town whilst giving a little help to the local business. You cannot nominate your own business - cash mobs are NOT about personal gain but about giving a little boost to a local shop. On Cash Mob day there will also be a chance to meet other community spirited people and get to know them. Cash mobbing keeps money in the local economy. Spending a tenner in a local shop supports independent retailing, brings the community together in difficult times, and it is fun. Care to nominate our first independent retailer who could do with a cash boost before Christmas???

HOW TO NOMINATE - all nominations need to be made via Private Message on the FaceBook page:

  • What is the business name and address?
  • How long has the business been in the town?
  • Why do you think that your nominated business should be cash mobbed by the community?
  • Any other details you think we should know?

Each month we will let you know the next Suffolk town we will be cash mobbing – it will give you plenty of time to get your nominations in for consideration! A Cash Mob is not just for Small Business Saturday….. it is for a different town and different business each month!
You, Twitter and Facebook - This is a true Suffolk community project driven by social media and the public.
