We know that children just want to have fun, and fun means different things to different children. Our itinerary includes a mix of arts, crafts, sports and leisure activities which are sure to put a smile on your child’s face. Beware though, some of activities we have listed are parent free zones!

Alton Water

Description: Set in 400 acres of beautiful countryside, Alton Waters is the perfect location for walks, cycle rides, wildlife spotting and family picnics. It’s just a short drive out of Ipswich and you will find Alton Water. Offering day access to visitors, you can experience sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and a range of water sports. Don’t worry about having your own equipment, you can hire a dinghy, windsurfing board, canoe and even hire wetsuits. And after spending time out on the waters you can enjoy something warming in the Servery. Alton Water’s also hosts events throughout the year, it is also home of the Great East Swim!

Anglian Indoor Karting

Description: If you have a budding F1 champion in your family then how about spending time getting some thrills at Anglia Indoor Karting. Enjoy high-speed entertainment as you travel around the multi-level circuit. With karts which suit all age ranges Anglian Indoor Karting provides great motorsport activity to all adrenaline-seekers. Their Karts are easy to drive, with no gears or clutch pedal – simply brake or accelerate! Their fleet consists of kubz karts, cadet karts and adult karts. Their professionally-designed racing circuit provides all the challenges of a full size circuit and is checked annually by the National Karting Association.

Area 25 Skate Park

Description: Ipswich’s indoor skate park you can enjoy skateboarding, inlining, as well as utilising facilities for BMX and Scooters. Open to adults and children who are looking to experience these exciting sports – for younger children and the less experienced there are shallow ramp areas, and for spectators there is a viewing area and a refreshments area. Area 25 first opened its doors to the public in February 2013. A completely professionally built indoor skate park that offers facilities for BMX, Scooters, Skateboarding and inlining. Area 25 is a safe, secure and fun environment for all ages wanting to experience these exciting extreme sports. Upstairs there is a comfortable viewing area where refreshments can also be purchased also.

Christchurch Mansion

Description: Christchurch Mansion is a beautiful example of a Mansion from the Tudor era. It is widely considered to be one of the jewels in the crown of Ipswich’s history. With over 500 years of history there is much to see and explore at the wonderful mansion. There are helpful fact sheets placed in each room and there are always a number of helpful and informative staff on hand to help fill in the gaps. When you’ve completed your visit, take time out for refreshments in the Mansion Café, and don’t forget to make time for a stroll around the stunning Christchurch Park which is home to many events throughout the year.

Additional Information: It is free to enter Christchurch Mansion. At certain times during the year additional events are planned, including activities for children. Opening times vary across the year, so please check the website before planning your visit.

Christchurch Park

Description: Christchurch Park includes a number of ponds, a wildlife area and the Upper and Lower Arboretums. The park has a well-kept activity play area for children with good equipment and is gated for parent’s peace of mind. There are also tennis courts for hire and a bowling green. The park hosts many events throughout the year, notably the Ipswich Music Day which is one of the largest free one day music event in the UK! In the winter sledging is a popular pastime for children and teenagers. And don’t forget to look out for Mabel, the park’s famous resident tawny owl!

Additional Information: A number of events and concerts take place in the park each year, including the Ip-Art Music Festival, open air cinema showing, and the annual fireworks display. Check the Ipswich Town & Waterfront website for current event listings.

Description: Crown Pools can be found in the heart of Ipswich town centre. It has three pools: the eight lane 25 metre competition pool; leisure pool complete with wave machine, fountain shower and inflatable slide; and the teaching pool, which is suitable for babies and parents. Crown Pools is the perfect venue to visit for anyone interested in sports and leisure. Crown Pools is also home to one of four Profiles Gyms in Ipswich. So if you’re into fitness, what better way to combine a workout at the gym and then finish off your visit with a relaxing dip in the pool? And if after all the activity in the pool or in the gym why not stop off at our cafe and enjoy a drink and a light bite. Visit Crown Pools and enjoy a great day out in Ipswich.

Fynn Valley Golf Club

Description: Fynn Valley Golf Club is only a short drive out of Ipswich town. It has a 9 hole and 18 hole course, which is open to non-members for a small fee. There are even family bookings available so everyone take part in a game of golf. Fynn Valley also has a great shop on site which is run by experienced and knowledgeable staff, it also has a licensed bar which serves great food and drink. The golf course and venue is set in the perfect rural Suffolk location yet is only a 5 minute drive from the county town of Ipswich! Fynn Valley is also licensed to host Wedding Civil Ceremonies and also has a glorious space for Wedding Breakfasts, Wedding Evening Receptions, School Proms, Charity events, Conferences, Christmas parties and Private parties.

Whatever your flavour combination, or whether you’re wanting an ice cream sundae, shake or splitz, I-Scream will make you a perfectly yummy creation… and all before your very eyes. I-Scream is a very unique ice cream parlour that was founded in 1999. With an array of flavours sure to satisfy anyone’s taste. Their ice-creams range from tutti-frutti to Pear and Chocolate and everything in between. I-Scream has a regularly updated menu with interesting new flavours being introduced frequently.

Description: Discover the history of Ipswich; learn about the discovery of the famous woolly mammoth, the castle on the hill, as well as the history of wartime Ipswich. The museum also includes an extensive collection of natural history, enabling you to get up close with animals including the giraffe, and study rocks and precious gems excavated from the local area. Ipswich Museum hosts year round events programme. If you are looking for events for the family when visiting Ipswich you will find lots to do at Ipswich Museum. A museum that has something for everyone. Ipswich Museum is also currently showing a loan of Egyptian artefacts from the British Museum! This is a long-term loan and part of the British Museum’s commitment to share items of interest and significance across the UK.

Additional Information: Entrance to the museum is free. There is a small gift shop within the museum, and throughout the year the museum puts on themed activities for children. Please check the website for further information.

Kingpin Bowling

Description: Traditional bowling lanes, as well as the cosmic bowling lanes, where you can experience the thrills of bowling in the dark. Refreshments available, as well as shoe hire. Kingpin Bowling also features ball drilling facilities, there is coaching available for all ages and levels, a Saturday morning kids club from 10 am to 12:30 pm, special ‘bowl and meal’ packages for large groups from school and youth groups. The Bowling facility also hosts league and tournament bowling, has wifi connection throughout and also has a function room which can be hired for events such as birthdays and much more.

New Wolsey Theatre/New Wolsey Studio

Description: This great theatre seats up to 400 people and is located in the centre of Ipswich town. Attracting audiences from far and wide, it is also a favourite amongst local people. Productions include one night shows to pantomimes, drama, comedy and music. You can even book yourself in for a back-stage tour and get a real feel of what it is like to stand on the stage. There is a great range of productions for children, as well as the popular Under-12s and Under-18s Comedy Nights (no parents allowed at the Under 18s Comedy Nights), and the Storyteller sessions for the younger audiences.

Additional Information: The New Wolsey Theatre is fully accessible, with Infra Red Hearing Enhancement, Touch Tours and Audio Described performances. Pricing is very reasonable.

Description: The Ipswich Regent which was opened in 1929 is an ideal place to take the kids to watch a show and for a great day out in Ipswich. We all love a visit to the theatre, so whether it is a pantomime, dance, ballet or opera, there is always a great selection of performances at the Regent for you to choose from. The Regent Theatre shows a great variety of shows throughout the year for all the family to enjoy. Choose matinee, evening or weekend performances. The Regent has wheelchair friendly access, hearing loop, and sight enabled performances included.

Description: At Suffolk Leisure Park in Ipswich, there is lots of fun and excitement to be had with great confidence building activities for children and adults alike. Suffolk Leisure Park offers lots of outdoor experiences such as ski, snowboarding, and tobogganing, as well as a climbing wall and high ropes, Suffolk Leisure Park is a popular venue for those who like to be active. There is also a mini golf course, driving range and putting green. Ski hire and equipment hire is available. As well as the above activities Suffolk Leisure Park offer a range of lessons, instruction and coaching for skiing, snowboarding and golf for all levels.
