Ipswich Maritime Festival

Ipswich Maritime Festival

Ipswich Maritime Festival takes place the weekend of 19th and 20th August 2017.

Put it in your diary, and get ready for a full weekend of activities as we celebrate our maritime history.

The Ipswich Maritime Festival is now an event that is part of the bi-annual calendar, and it is the town's way of celebrating its maritime history and how this has shaped the development of the town over the centuries. This year's event will take on a Viking theme based on the recapture of Ipswich from the Vikings 1100 years ago in 917AD.

It returns to the Waterfront this August to bring two days filled with activities, food and music, making sure there's always something for everyone.

The Ipswich Maritime Festival strives to showcase the maritime history, as well as celebrating today's maritime. It is also a great way to get as many people from the town involved as possible.

During the Ipswich Maritime Festival we can be assured of a wide range of activities for families, couples and individuals alike. We're already expecting the return of the famous maritime market, attractions for the children (such as fairground rides and Punch & Judy), river cruises, music, food, drink .... and much more.

Local businesses will be participating proudly, making sure that visitors to and residents of the town get as much out of the event as possible.

As part of the celebration, Beer&Co present a special Saints Maritime Beer & Cider Festival at the stunning venue St Peter's by the Waterfront, offering outstanding craft ales, ciders and beers, as well as showcasing local talent and a pop-up record shop.

Quay Place are running FREE open days over the weekend which include tours of their beautiful building on their heritage trail. All the family can join in by making boats and sailing them on water, and making flags to hoist onto a mast. Their Family Art Activities days that run between 15th and 18th August are great to get involved in. You'll be making collages and cards, and learning rhymes and sea shanties and so much more. AND all work will be displayed during the Maritime Festival!

As well as all of this, there will be a pop-up café at Quay Place over the Maritime weekend serving delicious homemade delights. If you're looking for somewhere lovely to sit down out of the sun (or the rain), Quay Place has activities to entertain the little ones - and the big ones!

On Saturday 19th August at 7:30pm, from outside the Old Custom House, the maritime musicians High Water Mark will be performing popular sea shanty songs on board the stationary Sailing Barge Victor as part of the celebration.

As though this wasn't enough, there will also be a stage with many live music performances, a bar, fire performers and a firework finale to finish the event on Sunday night (at dusk).

Ipswich is such a great place to visit, as well as a great place to live, and this exciting event is just one reason why so many people come from far and wide to visit our town and waterfront. It's not to be missed!
